The Leicester Maher Community Association is a registered charity working closely with its community members worldwide. The Association is responsible for the day to day running and management of the Maher Centre. The centre was opened in the Aug 1996. To date, the centre has hosted countless number of social, cultural, charitable, religious, and commercial events

The Centre has undergone major refurbishment since it was opened and it now has state of the art facilities for weddings, parties, exhibitions, conferences and all major events.  The Maher Centre is no dou
bt the first choice in comparison to its competitors within the market.

Role

We are looking for a reliable and a committed individual to manage our centre. The person appointed will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all staff, contractors and centre services.

The manager will ensure that all services provided meet the clients’ needs and events are run efficiently, which will require liaising with an events coordinator. The manager must deliver customer satisfaction and effective business management, which will often mean dealing with last-minute changes or solving problems as they arise.

It will also be the manager’s responsibility to develop the business by effectively planning ahead, managing future sales/marketing and efficiently budgeting to maximise income generated.

The ideal candidate will be able to work well under pressure, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the centre and its facilities in order to execute successful events for clients’. We anticipate for the manager to be involved in recruitment of an Events Coordinator.

Specific Duties

This role requires a resilient individual who thrives on challenges. Though day-to-day duties will vary as per the centre’s growing needs, please note some of the specific duties:

  • Dealing with customer complaints, comments and enquiries;

·         Communicating daily with the management team, planning work schedules and checking client requirements;

  • Ensuring all events run smoothly;
  • Managing budgets and financial plans;
  • Taking responsibility for the recruitment, training, organisation and monitoring of staff;
  • Supervising maintenance, supplies and equipment;
  • Achieving profit targets;
  • Taking responsibility for the sales and marketing of the centre, including pricing, promotions, image/brand and profile;
  • Leading by example in maintaining service standards;
  • Applying current legal and in-house HR procedures to ensure the retention of good staff and the provision of high-quality services;
  • Ensuring insurance, legal, health and safety obligations are adhered to at all times
  • Overseeing the booking of the centre, facilities, resources and equipment
  • Researching markets to identify new business;
  • Negotiating with external service providers and suppliers as required;
  • Purchasing equipment necessary for the conference centre to operate;
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety, licensing laws and other legal regulations;
  • Preparing delegate packs and papers;
  • Troubleshooting and addressing problems as they arise.

·         Controlling staffing and labour costs with the venues cleaning staff, car parking attendants and events coordinator

  • Maintaining the centre, car park and onsite buildings through regular checks and coordinating repair and maintenance work as required
  • Coordinating suppliers, handling client queries and troubleshooting on the day of the event to ensure that all runs smoothly;
  • Organising facilities for car parking, traffic control, security, first aid, hospitality and the media during events;
  • Selling sponsorship/stand/exhibition space to potential exhibitors/partners;
  • Promoting the values and ethos of the centre

Knowledge, Skills, Understanding

Education and Qualifications

Essential:

·         A relevant professional Management or equivalent qualification

·         Thorough commercial based experience

·         Degree or equivalent qualification

 

Desirable:

·         Further relevant educational professional qualification

·         Relevant training

 

Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

·         Experience of budgetary management and control within a large organisation

·         A working knowledge of facilities management

·         A working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation

·         An understanding of procurement, contracts, risk assessment, health and safety and traded services in organisations

·         Experience of working effectively with a wide range of external partners

·         Sales / Customer facing experience/able to build rapport

·         Awareness and understating of centre finance/resources management information systems.


·         Experience of motivating and leading staff

·         Experience of running an administrative department and / or section

 

Desirable:

·         Successful experience in the submission of bids securing funding in the public sector
