Maher’s from London, Luton, and Leicester met with Loughborough on Sunday 26th July, and played a full day of cricket.
As some of us would prefer a “virtual tournament on Wii, where we can seat on our comfortable sofas, surrounded by our families and under a roof”, cricket players would rather stand in the rain under grey-lined clouds, and enjoy a wonderful game! There was an under 16s and seniors cricket tournament that was held at Loughborough organised by volunteers from Leicester with not just players turning up but plenty of others there to support and cheer on their teams.
Even though there was only three teams for the under 16s tournament, London united with Luton to form a team because there wasn’t enough players.
Overall, the cricket tournament could do with more women and more supporters, like we get when playing Wii cricket, it could also do with more youngster’s teams. We all know children enjoy hitting and throwing bowls so why not do it with other Mahers? Hopefully next year there will be more Maher’s represent not just their town but the Maher community.
