Maher Dandia Raas team played at Diwali light switch on on Belgrave Road, Leicester (UK).
They performed in front of a record crowd.
Massive crowds marked one of the biggest days in the city’s calendar as this year’s Diwali lights were switched on to thunderous applause.
Belgrave Gate was packed with thousands of people of all ages last night as the Hindu festival of light began.
The street, in Belgrave, Leicester, was alive with the sound of music, horns, whistles and chatter.
Following the switch-on at 7.30pm a laser and firework display was held in nearby Cossington Street recreation ground.
Under the light of a full moon, the crowds filed into the park to watch the display, which could be heard across the city.
Leicester’s Diwali celebrations are organised by Leicester City Council and Leicester Hindu Festival Council.
The display, which is created and put up by the city council, features more than 1,000 metres of light displays and 6,500 bulbs.
Leicester’s Deputy Lord Mayor Manjula Sood attended yesterday’s celebrations.
She said: “It was fantastic – every year it gets bigger.
“People from all walks of life come and to see the crowd is very pleasing.”
