The all-rounder unexpectedly lined up for Eurokey in the final but it was the Leicestershire League Premier Division champions who took centre stage after a gripping run-chase.
Mongia had earlier scored 147 in Eurokey’s total of 188-9 from their allotted 30 overs before he was bowled by Stars skipper Pratap Odedra (3-36). Ravi Kumar also returned 4-16.
But Stars, thanks in the main to man-of-the-match Rahul Avtar’s impressive knock of 108, reached their target for the loss of only four wickets and with three overs to spare (190-4).
We were delighted to win because no-one expected us to do so,” said Odedra.
“We couldn’t quite believe it when Dinesh Mongia turned up for the opposition but we relaxed, played our cricket and got our rewards while leaving Eurokey with a little egg on their faces!”
