The best pound-for-pound boxer in the world Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather Jr will visit Leicester to meet fight fans next month.
The undefeated American will appear at the Maher Centre, in Ravensbridge Drive, Leicester city centre, on June 18, as part of a tour of a UK.
Fans will get a chance to ask questions and have their photos taken with the 37-year-old five weight world champion on the night.
Former WBO cruiserweight champion and Sky Sports presenter Johnny Nelson will host the black tie evening, which costs between £100 and £300 to attend.

In a statement, Mayweather Jr, said: “I am looking forward to meeting some of my UK fans in Leicester.
“The evening promises to be a good occasion particularly as I can battle out some questions with Johnny Nelson. Watch out Leicester, I’m coming for you!”
Excited boxing fan Edward Reid, 35, from Oadby, said Mayweather was his idol.
He said: “I can’t wait. I love Floyd Mayweather. If I was brave enough to box I’d want to be just like him.
“I’m definitely going – I don’t care how much it costs.”
Fans have already paid big money to see Mike Tyson, Joe Calzage and Ricky Hatton at similar events held in the city.
But Shane Whitfield, director of K Kong Events, which is organising the occasion, said this would be the biggest yet.
He said: “This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet one of the world’s modern day sporting legends. We anticipate boxing and sports fans from across the UK will travel to Leicester to see Mayweather.
“As the most respected and feared boxer of our generation and a successful businessman to boot, we’re sure the evening will pack some punches.”
Former Leicester City captain Steve Walsh, who jointly runs K Kong Events, which organised the event, said: “When someone offered us this opportunity we almost snapped their hand off.
“The Maher Centre is a fantastic venue and it should be an absolutely amazing occasion.”
Floyd Mayweather Jr is reportedly worth $300million and is said to be the world’s richest sportsman.
He recently successfully defended his WBC and WBA Super welterweight titles against Argentine power puncher Marcos Maidana.

Event Planning Meeting

Dear Samaj Members,
As the serving group of the community, we would like to meet with members of our Samaj to discuss, plan and decide any additional events we could possibly hold this year. So far we have the following events planned for this year;

  • Holi
  • Beej
  • Navratri
  • Diwali
  • Children’s Christmas Party
  • New Year’s Eve Party

We understand that there are many ideas within our Samaj. People often make suggestions of the types of events that could/should be organised and would therefore like to discuss possibilities based on the needs of our Samaj. We are planning to meet at the Maher centre on Thursday 27th March at 8pm.
We will discuss and brainstorm ideas followed by clear decisions such as which events to hold, possible dates, venue and which volunteers to lead each event.
Following this, we will communicate the information / details of each event to the community via our next edition of the Parivar magazine that will be distributed at the beginning of April.
We welcome input and assistance from anyone keen to be involved so please feel free to come along if you have any ideas and can volunteer to make these events a success for the community.
For any questions or further information please contact Pratapbhai Odedra on 07711603538.
Thanks & Regards,

Arjan Laxman Godhania – Heart Transplant Patient

Arjan Laxman Godhania - Heart Transplant PatientArjan Laxman Godhania  – Heart Transplant Patient
I am the daughter in-law of Arjan Laxman Godhania, this year we are celebrating his 25th Birthday. With the support of a professional and dedicated team of highly skilled medical staff at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital, 25 years ago Dad (as I referral to him) was given another chance at life with a heart transplant.

Great will power and resolve

He is a man with great will power and resolve. Since joining the family in 1991 I have had the good fortune to witness first hand what having great will power can help you achieve. He is on countless medication and often suffers from side effects however in the 23 years that I have known Dad, not once have I heard him say he feels unwell.

It has not always been a bed of roses we have had a few scares along the way. A number of times he has had to be rushed to hospital and be defibrillated due to having an irregular heartbeat. But when we go to visit him the room would be filled with laughter, not a sad face in sight. We as a family believe humor is the best medicine for ill health.

We are indebted to the family that donated the heart, and would encourage others to sign up and register as an Organ Donor.

For more information about Organ Donation, visit NHSBT website http://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/

” I wanted to make my parents proud of me”

Kajal Deva Odedra
When I asked her what her motivation factors where, she said “My parents extremely encouraged me to do well in my exams as it means I will have a better future. My parents were also very supportive of me which then made me determined to do well. I live in Braunstone, Leicester but my parents made an effort of travelling at least half an hour a day to reach school so I can have a good education in Oadby School. My parents traveled every week to reach my tuition classes. I am extremely proud to have such great parents who are willing to do so much for me.”

“One of my biggest motivation factors to achieve high results was that I wanted to make my parents proud of me and I also want to contribute back to them as they did so much for me. They work hard so they can provide me with anything I want and a good education and their hard work is beneficial. When I received my results I was quite apprehensive and nervous, but once I had read them I was very happy and elated. I really want to work hard and want to secure a good future for myself. Even though I may never be able to repay the favour to my parents, I want to provide them with a good future.”

Further Studies

Kajal has decided to continue her studies at Beauchamp College for her A-levels and she has chosen Biology, Chemistry, Phycology and Mathematics.

This is a great achievement for Kajal’s family and for the entire Maher Community to have such talented and dedicated students.

On behalf of Maheronline and global Maher community we wish her all the best for the further studies.
